Greg Valiquette brings new meaning to hitting your mom’s pots and pans in the kitchen when you were a little kid. He grew up around drums and started playing when he was 5-years-old. His father is a drummer and got him started playing early.

He’s had other musical influences besides his dad like John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, and most recently Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band. Valiquette loves to play a full set of drums, but he also enjoys hand drums as well. Here’s a video of him playing a hand drum called a djembe…

“Playing music gets your juices flowing,” he explained. “It makes you feel good, especially when everyone else is getting into it and dancing.”

Valiquette also plays in a band called Electric Jelly from Baltimore, Md. His favorite songs to play are “First Tube” by Phish, “Cissy Strust” by the Meters and an original song by Electric Jelly called “Love Rocket.”

He hopes to have a career in music someday, and encourages all beginner drummers to practice, practice, practice.
